Direct Support
Paraprofessionals and BHTs provide direct instruction and behavior support services to clients.
The Direct Support Staff will work under the guidance of a Behavior Analyst, Behavior Specialist, or Special Education Teacher providing direct support to the client they serve. They implement goals, behavior plans, collect data and support the client to help them reach their fullest potential. Each provider implements strategies and goals outlined in the client’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) or Individual Treatment Plan (ITP) depending on the type of support and system involved (education vs medical).
Direct Support Services Include:
- Implementation of strategies outlined in the behavior/treatment plan
- Collections of data on goals
- Support of student in their home, school, or community
- Proactive support and guidance to promote client success
- Break down of tasks to foster learning of new skills
- Collaboration with other team members
- Training in Applied Behavior Analysis and Verbal Behavior programs
- Services can be face-to-face or virtual
